Both organizations put donated eyewear to work rather than letting it sit in a drawer. Lions Club volunteers sort, refurbish and distribute glasses to people in underserved communities who otherwise lack access to basic eye care, while reclaiming materials from pairs that can't be reused. Assist International works with local optical partners to sort and redistribute donated eyewear to recipients both locally and abroad, matching people with prescriptions close to their own.
The collection drew support from The Goddard School, Fanwood Eye Care and Charles Studio, which served as drop-off partners, along with residents who brought in their old glasses throughout the drive.
The Fanwood Green Team is a volunteer group that works with local government to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship. The eyeglass drive is part of its ongoing Fanwood Cares Collections effort.
