La Grande brings the district's pre-kindergarten classes together in one location. District officials said that the move creates a dedicated space for its youngest learners while freeing nine classrooms across the district's other elementary schools and easing space constraints.
The school was purchased with funds from the $44.77 million referendum approved by Scotch Plains-Fanwood voters in January 2025, including $11.4 million in state funding. The project included interior renovations, selective roof replacement, parking-lot restoration, security and technology upgrades, new playground equipment and other improvements.
Superintendent Dr. Joan Mast, Principal Megan McNally, Board of Education members and district officials were joined by Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr, Scotch Plains Mayor Josh Losardo, Assemblywoman Linda Carter and other municipal representatives for the opening. The district said the renovated building creates a dedicated home for pre-kindergarten students while expanding its capacity across the community.
