The seasonal collection will include donated boots for men, women and children, including warm-weather and fashion styles, along with some new items. The shop will also carry Halloween costumes and accessories for children, adults and pets, as well as autumn-themed household décor.
More important than the merchandise itself is where the proceeds go. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Service League is an all-volunteer nonprofit, and revenue remaining after shop operating costs is directed to local nonprofit organizations and student scholarships. The organization reported awarding $50,000 in grants and scholarships in each of the last two years.
Donations from community members keep the shop’s inventory changing throughout the year. Clothing, footwear, books, toys, games, linens, household items and bric-a-brac are among the secondhand goods offered, giving usable items another life while helping fund local programs.
The Thrift Shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information about shopping, volunteering or accepted donations, call 908-322-5420 during shop hours or visit scotchplainsthriftshop.weebly.com.
