Cranford now has 11 outdoor automated external defibrillator equipment placements in recreation spaces, according to The Aliver Foundation, following community partnerships that combine equipment donations with education.

Recent events at Adams Fieldhouse and Livingston Avenue School highlighted that work as the foundation marked October’s Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month.

On September 28, the foundation joined the Cranford Police and Fire Departments for an equipment dedication and community celebration at Adams Fieldhouse. The event recognized two outdoor AED bundles underwritten by the Cranford Jaycees for the Cranford Baseball and Softball League, with the second placement at Memorial Fieldhouse.

Families participated in children’s activities, an interactive CPR and AED demonstration, and a touch-a-truck featuring emergency response vehicles. Children also had opportunities to meet local first responders.

On October 6, Livingston Avenue School hosted an educational event recognizing equipment donated for its athletic field by the Hooey Family. Principal Cari Lopez opened the program, which included remarks from foundation representatives and police and fire personnel. Two students also spoke about the importance of having outdoor AED equipment available at their school.

The gathering completed a series of school educational events that began in June. The Hooey Family has underwritten equipment at five school athletic fields: Brookside Place School, Cranford High School, Livingston Avenue School, Orange Avenue School and Walnut Avenue School. The family also supported a placement at Memorial Field Complex honoring Cranford PAL volunteers.

Additional equipment was underwritten by Cranford Rotary at Hanson Park. Union County placed outdoor AED equipment at Lenape and Nomahegan parks as part of a broader county parks initiative following advocacy by the foundation.

“We are humbled by the generosity of the Hooey Family, Cranford Jaycees, and Rotary Club of Cranford, as well as for the continued support of the Cranford Fire and Police Departments. This work truly takes a community, and Cranford continues to show what is possible when people come together to help one another,” said foundation Founder and President Jill A. Pall.

Youth involvement also helped carry the message into the community. Teen Ambassador and Cranford High School senior Josie Fiore attended the October 6 Township meeting, where officials recognized Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month with a proclamation.

Teen Ambassadors also created a Pacey The Happy Heart entry for Downtown Cranford’s Scarecrow Stroll. The character appears in the foundation’s picture book for children ages 4–8, which encourages healthy habits and confidence around community helpers. Copies are available in Cranford elementary school libraries and the Cranford Public Library’s Children’s Room through donor support.

Founded in January 2024, The Aliver Foundation reports helping place nearly 200 outdoor AED equipment bundles across 12 states, including more than 100 in New Jersey. Each $2,500 bundle includes an AED and a bright yellow, all-weather, climate-controlled enclosure.
